:: LADY AND THE TRAMP - STORY OUTLINE ::
NaNoWriMo '06 Lady and the Tramp Character List
(Dogcatcher (police), Pound dogs (inmates)) Story - Fred, who has always been the center of attention for his friends, is feeling abandoned once they both spend more time with their new love interests. - Fred recently broke up with his girlfriend Gretchen, and she's still harboring some resentment against him because she thinks he was secretly in love with Kate at the time. Gretchen is close friends with (Daniel's girlfriend) and (Kate's boyfriend Tristan) and wants Fred to stay as far away from Kate as possible so he won't 'break them up'. - Lila and Ryan are Fred's close friends. They aren't that close with Kate and Daniel (or with each other) but they try to cheer Fred up anyway they can. - During the weekends they meet at a local club, and one night Lex's band performs there. Ryan knows her from school, and makes an attempt to pick her up. Lex is more interested in Fred's woes and explains to him that once a friend blows you off for their new love interest's sake, the friend is better off being lost. Fred doesn't believe her and decides to be as friendly as possible with (Jane) and (Tristan). - When Kate and Daniel suddenly decide to leave for an unexpected trip, Gretchen takes it on herself to look after (Jane) and (Tristan). - What she doesn't know is that the co-captain of the Varsity cheerleading squad, Chrissie, is planning revenge on Kate and Daniel. She wants Kate's position on the team, and she's also mad because (Tristan) turned her down in Kate's favor. Chrissie uses the help of the JV cheerleading team to get (Tristan) and (Jane) out of the way. The JV team helps because if Kate leaves, there'll be an opening in the Varsity team for one of them. - During a party, Fred ends up in the middle of Chrissie's battle plan. (Jane) gets her drink spiked, and Gretchen walks in on them, thinking Fred was trying to take advantage of (Jane). Fred realizes that Chrissie is behind the drinks (and trying to seduce (Tristan)) but nobody is willing to listen to him when they hear about (Jane). - When the rumors in school get too much for him to take, he skips the rest of his classes and leaves, determined not to go back until he knows what to do. Lex, who has also decided to skip her classes but for other reasons, joins up with him when she sees him leaving the building. - The two spend the day together, while Lex shows him that there is a world outside of the private school's boundaries and that he shouldn't take life so serious all the time. Instead of going to a restaurant, they have a picnic on top of the roof above the main street in town and they look at the people down below. Afterwards they 'borrow' a car and drive up to the lake and fall asleep in the car. - The next morning, Lex suggests that they keep driving and live off what they can, but Fred still feels responsible for (Jane) and (Tristan), now when he knows Chrissie is out to get them. Lex admits her defeat and agrees to go back to school with him. She asks him to stop by the club on the way so she can pick something up. Unfortunately, someone recognizes the car and a police shows up and asks for Fred's registration. Fred, who doesn't own the car and don't know whose it is, is promptly taken away to the station. When Lex comes back, she has no idea where the car and Fred disappeared to. - Fred spends a miserable day in jail, while the police is trying to get in contact with his parents and the owner of the car. It turns out that the car belonged to one of Lex's ex-boyfriends, Greg, and he is mostly amused when he shows up at the station and comes face to face with a broody Fred. He explains that Lex is kind of a wild girl and that she's usually attracted to bad guys. Fred takes this as a sign that Lex is bad news and decides to ignore her from now on. - Fred returns to school after his adventure, and the school and his parents are less than happy about him cutting classes and getting in trouble with the police. He's not allowed to leave the school's premises or to be apart of any functions. He's also suspended from the hockey team. - Lila and Ryan take turns trying to make things better. Knowing Fred had no luck with Lex and had his heart broken again, they even offer up themselves as someone he could date. Fred declines nicely, pointing out that he and Lila didn't turn out so well last time, and apart from Ryan, he wasn't bisexual. - A few days later, Lex shows up outside his windows, wondering where he is and why he hasn't called her. Fred is still in a bad mood and they have fight. Fred tells her that she's too much of a daredevil, while Lex believes that he needs to get out and live his life before it's too late. Eventually Lex decides that she's had it with his negative attitude, so she leaves. - The same evening, Lila gets word that there's supposed to be a party at the club in town. When she's reporting back to Fred, Ryan shows up and announces that he's seen (Tristan) leave the school with Chrissie. Fred is desperate to get into town and stop whatever plans Chrissie has made, but the dorm supervisors won't let him leave the campus grounds. In one last effort, he calls Lex and begs her to help him out. - Lex, who has a gig that night, immediately knows that something's up. She recognizes (Jane) who is there accompanied by the JV cheerleaders. She overhears their plan to get (Jane) drunk, set her up with any willing guys they can find, and take pictures of it so Daniel will be forced to break up with her. (Jane) is there under the pretence that they want to recruit her for the team. - Chrissie's plan also includes hooking up with (Tristan), so that he will break up with Kate, and also tell him how Kate and Fred used to mess around behind Gretchen's back. - Back at school, Fred, Lila and Ryan finally just climb out of a window and get Fred's car from the parking lot. At the same time as they leave, Daniel and Kate return from their trip, and the first person they meet is Gretchen. She tells them what's been going on, and they don't believe for a second that Fred would take advantage of (Jane) or that he would lie about his intentions. They go to Fred's room, but all they find is an empty dorm and a message from Lex on the answering machine. Once Gretchen hears what Lex has overheard at the club, she realizes how wrong she's been. She offers to drive Kate and Daniel to the club to rectify the problem. - The final confrontation takes place at the club, where everyone has turned up. Fred, Lila and Ryan are frantically trying to find (Jane), while Chrissie has brought (Tristan) backstage to be alone. Lex has them all under control from the stage, from where she can see the entire room. Kate, Daniel and Gretchen arrive just as Fred manages to drag (Jane) away from the crowd. She's already very intoxicated and needs to get to a hospital. Ryan leaves to get the car. Suddenly they all come face to face; the cheerleaders try to pin (Jane) on Fred again, but Kate and Daniel want none of that. Fred tries to explain, but they tell him that they already believe him. One of the bouncers arrives when it's clear that (Jane) has had too much to drink, and he also has the principal with him. The cheerleaders are quick to tell him their version, and while the others try to stick up for Fred, they aren't as successful this time. Just as it seems as Fred is about to end up at the police station again, Lex swoops in and saves the day. She turns on the speakers so that the entire room can hear Chrissie while she's talking to (Tristan). (Tristan) is quick to realize that he's being used and when he stands up for Kate, Chrissie explodes and all her plans are revealed. - The ambulance arrive and Daniel goes with (Jane). Kate and (Tristan) reunite, happy that it's all over. But Fred isn't happy until he can find Chrissie so that she can explain what really happened and clear his name. He, Gretchen and Lila split up to follow her out from the club. Gretchen apologizes to Fred again, and they make up. They are just about to catch up with Chrissie, when she gets into her car and starts backing out. Fred yells at her to stop, but neither he nor Chrissie see Lila until it's too late. Chrissie slams the break, but the car still bumps into Lila, who falls to the ground. Ryan shows up and blocks Chrissie's car so she can't get away. Lex comes running from the back and she and Gretchen keep Chrissie from leaving. Fred and Ryan hurry up to Lila to make sure she's all right. - It's time for the Winter Formal, and everything seems to be resolved. Daniel and Kate bring their dates. Gretchen has been asked to go by Greg, who considers her as a lot less complicated than Lex. Fred and Lila show up together, but alone, as they haven't asked anyone else to go with. Fred never worked up the courage to ask out Lex, and now he can't as she's in the band. He and Lila convince themselves that they would rather go stag, until Ryan asks Lila to dance. Fred tells her to go, and finds himself all alone. As he's about to leave, Lex taps him on the shoulder and asks if he's got time for one dance before midnight. - Lex finally realizes that she does like the calm and safe type of guys, while Fred has realized that he enjoys getting the most out of life and not always worry about everything.
